YAKUTIA SNOW SHEEP HUNTING
(Ovis nivicola)
Ovis nivicola or Siberian Big Horn Sheep, is a species of sheep from the mountainous areas in Yakut. The strpng thickset sheep possesses rather little head with rather short ears, a thick and short neck and the same limbs.
The body weight of a male snow sheep makes from 56 to 150 kg, height in winthers of 76 – 112 cm, lengthe of a body of 140 – 188 cm. Female of a snow sheep considerably concedes to a male in sizes. The body weight of a female is from 33 to 68 kg, height in withers of 76 -100 cm, length of a body is 126 – 179 cm.
Habitats: Remote mountain tundra, rocky slopes
Distribution: Ridges to the East from the Lena River (except the peninsula of Kamchatka, to the south of about 60N). The Yakut snow sheep (lydekkeri) lives from the Lena River to east on the Verkhoyansk, Momsky ridges, Chersky Range.
