ALTAI ARGALI
(Ovis ammon ammon)
With the heaviest horns, that reach 75 pounds, the Argali is the most impressive looking of all sheeps, and one of the two greatest of all trophy animals of the world (Jamsheed, 1984). The largest of all sheep, Altai argalis are found in the West Altai mountain range known as a “Mountain range of 1000 Argalis”, stretched from the north-west Mongolia to the south.
Hunting season: July 01 – September 30
Average trophy size: 50 – 54 inches in length and 14-17 inches in base circumference. “The king of all rams” with the largest trophy was taken by C. J. McElroy in 1970 from the West Altai and it attains a horn length of 66 and 63 inches with girth exceeding 21 inches.
